Before, Gorbiriel lamented that he had to wait longer than reviewers to be disappointed. Now he has begun to lap at that darkwine, drawing from it a dark strength. Or… rage, at least. He plays games for the Art, in the way some do things for the 'gram. The art is basically killing him.
You know shit's fucked up when he writes a newspot. Right? It's like if you see a deer. The game is so linear and simple that the best case, most ennobling version of events is that it's intended to be Old School. The Wolverine On A Motorcycle section, where you ride up alongside a truck and slash at the tires with your adamantium clawz, is Straight Outta Midgar. In the mode of a boomer shooter, I can see a single player brawler throwback going super hard provided that it knows what it is and what it's trying to do. I'm not a hundred percent sure that's what happened but everything in this game could use a thick coat of Nineties Sweet.
As we suggest in the strip, in some ways it looks like some of these faces are about halfway through an iteration process. Picture like ten different people coming in and working a face out of clay, and then leaving when they got bored. His doughy face looks fucking insane. There isn't anything aspirational or heroic going on. One of the things about comics is that the teams are quite small, and knowing who exactly made what parts of it is a big part of the medium. You might read a comic just because someone else drew it. I think if you tried to find out who was responsible for this, it would just be the Spider-Man gif - a metaphor that is not only powerful, but deeply context appropriate. Faces by committee; the responsibility has been made diffuse.
There is a parallel universe version of me who rails against soy cucks, or whatever. I would never touch soy, certainly - I'd be too concerned about the effects of those phytoestrogens on my rod. One of the things such "chuds" believe is that companies are making characters ugly on purpose. I don't remember what the reasoning was, possibly a "humiliation ritual," but it really looks like Insomniac did everything they could to reify that belief. That seems like a bad policy. Next time, they should make the characters look cool just to fuck with those guys.
